Background

Ravi, an accountant, had dabbled in the stock market and relied on tips from WhatsApp Groups or friends. He had invested around £20k and held around 40 stocks. Ravi would buy stocks when the price dropped, on the advice of friends or the WhatsApp Groups, hoping the price would rise so he could sell at a profit.

It was clearly the wrong strategy but there didn’t seem to be much wise advice around. Ravi was spending a large sum of money on brokerage transaction fees, buying and selling stocks he hoped in luck would return a profit.
